"A textbook is a textbook, there's only so good they can get, but this one is one of the better ones. This book accomplishes one of the main ideas of being an anthropologist: be informative without judging. They present a wide variety of cultures and customs while also providing interesting history and stories. It was one of the more interesting textbooks that I've had to read and it did a decent job of keeping my attention. Good luck in your course!"

- This book was required but overall it was a good read. Ended up with an A so it was easily read although the course itself was challenging. As long as you enjoy anthropology you will enjoy this book.
- I needed this book for a class, and it's alright. There are a lot of interesting case studies mentioned, but most of the actual text is just stuff you probably already know about if you have already studied religion, anthropology or comparative mythology. The author also occasionally uses some weird grammar that made the whole work seem less professional.

- Needed for class. It is a well written book that has so much interesting information of various cultures rituals and beliefs.
- This book is a great introduction to Anthropology. It clearly demonstrates to the reader what and how various practices came to be. This is my first exposure to the subject and this book is fascinating, informative, and fun to read. It is a text for my class, but I would have bought it just for the pleasure of learning something new, different and interesting. I would recommend this book to everyone who is interested in other cultures and religious beliefs.
- This is a great book of you want to learn and see beliefs, magic, and rituals in a different light. Having used this book for the class gave me a new appreciation the things other cultures do different.
- Usually I do not have positive things to say about a college textbook. This one on the other hand is nice, I could imagine reading this even if I was not taking the class, and that is not something I would say very often. The material is interesting and is great for someone who wants a crash course in some of the religions of the world and their beliefs.
- It gets straight to the point and you won't be disappointed or confused when you pick up this book! Give it a try!
